Hi, everyone! This is my first post and in August will be my first time backpacking, let alone to Europe. So, I have a few questions...
My backpack doesn't zipper shut. I know you're thinking, WTF YOU CRAZY MORON. I know, but I've also talked to several people who say its actually not that bad. Here, this is my bag: http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...ry_rn=4500572&
It has TWO drawstrings, plus a clip top thingie that covers it. It becomes very secure and no one would be able to get into it while I'm in the room, but if my tent got broken into or my hostel room and I wasn't there, then yes thats a problem. I could get some safty pins to put on it to make it even harder to get into? Also, there is a sleeping bag part at the bottom, which I will lock, and some compartments which I may lock, as well.
Am I gonna get robbed????? I really like my pack and I don't want to return it, lots of people agree I'll be fine. I'm travelling in a group with guides, etc. I have 4 nights in hostels and about 19 in tents which we lock. 1 night in overnight train. I am probably going to buy a bike lock.
Sorry, I thought I had more questions, I'll post them when I remember.

Nope.. the lack of zippers shouldn't be a problem.
If someone really wants to get at your stuff, they'll just slash your bag, it's quicker!
But, uh, don't worry about that. Security should be on everyone's mind, but in general, what keeps your stuff from being swiped is common sense (i.e. not leaving valuables where they can be taken, being vigilant when in crowded areas, etc.).

Welcome to the boards, its great to have you!
I was the same way about my pack security, but after a few days i really calmed down about it. I realized that if someone wants my bag, then they will take it.
If you are really worried and you can't get it off you mind you caan try this product
Pac-Safe
Etiher way, remeber this, DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE IN YOUR BACKPACK!
Importent documents ( Plane ticket, passport, insurence info), keep as close to you as possible, everthing else is just stuff, and can be replaced
