just thought I'd post some photos of our camping trip last weekend.
We left town and drove 5 hrs to Dildo Run Provincial Park (yeah, that's the real name!)

We found a good campsite, with an ocean view and quickly set up

the view of the islands and ocean. we got eaten by flies that night.

The next morning we took off north to Twillingate to try to catch some icebergs, but unfortunately there was only one tiny one way off in the distance. Not worth paying for a boat tour....so here's the lighthouse in Twillingate:

After picking up a few supplies and eating we stopped in Campbellton to check out the Old Mill

from the back

some various pics
oooh, artsy

boats in the park

the next day we tried to get the ferry over to Fogo but we missed it by 8 minutes! so off we drove to Newtown, which is touted as "The Venice of Newfoundland"....seeing how we were in venice last fall I had to check it out...

Not really Rialto, but a good try lol

after that we headed to Eastport after deciding to get a cabin for the night instead of tenting again..
inside the cabin

The next morning (after the dog woke me at 5am!!)I took a drive to the beach and the town of Salvage

this is a great place to swim in July.

Sunrise

all in all it was a great relaxing weekend.

You've got some serious skill with the camera!

Looks like you had a great time. I can't wait until the crappy Vancouver weather passes and I can start hitting up the logging roads again.

Ok, you should NOT have started that series of pics with "Dildo Run." I've been laughing too hard to look at the rest of 'em with a critical eye.

lol. maybe I'll take a trip out to Dildo for Dildo Days in July.

I don't know of any alternate meaning. why they chose that name is beyond me.

I must say - wicked pictures!
I'm officially moving "camping on an ocean beach" up to the top of my TO DO list.

the best time to do it here is july and august. usually the whales are out by then and you can listen to them as you fall asleep.
last year I surprised my wife on our anniversary with a quick trip...we didn't even sleep in the tent, just fell asleep next to the fire with the whales blowing just offshore.
awesome.
