Hiking boots and Tatras

Hey, just over a week before I go and I need to get some footwear for hiking. I don't have much of a clue on the subject so am looking for some help.

The most rugged terrain I'll be dealing with will probably be the tatras though I'll be mainly sticking to the main trails and walking paths. So, I'm basically wondering will I need big heavy boots like these- http://www.millets.co.uk/Millets.storefron...oduct/088413341
or would hiking trainer things like these be sufficient e.g. http://www.millets.co.uk/Millets.storefron...oduct/081299621

I'd prefer to buy the trainer type as they're cheaper, lighter and I suppose a bit trendier but will buy the boot type if really needed.

Also, as for hiking through the tatras at this time of year what type of equipment and clothing will be needed. Should I bring waterproofs and some warm clothing or is the weather fine? I don't plan on doing a lot of hiking throughout my whole journey therefore I was intending on only packing light summer clothing.

You're getting shoes a week before leaving?? Can you say 'blisters'... ouch! In the future I would advise you to buy footware at least a few weeks (if not a month) in advence to break them in.

I've been to the Tatra Mountains on the Polish side when I was younger, but I suppose not that much has changed. As in any mountains the weather can change drastically in a short period of time. I'd advise to layer your clothing (this way if it gets hot you can take something off) and bring a good rain coat along with you. The only thing worst then beeing cold is being cold AND wet. As for the shoes I would personally go and get a good pair of hiking boots... I find the ankle support really useful when walking up the mountain on rocks and such. Seeing as you are going to be walking in them I wouldn't ever skimp on the footware. I look at spending that money as a worth while investment, a one time buy for 4-7 years if you take care of the pair. However, if you do not do that much hiking or camping and this is a purchase you were thinking of only for this trip, then spending the money on a pair of boots may not be right for you.

If you're gonna be doing some hiking then i'd recommend going with a hiking boot of some sort. I'll be doing a small amount of hiking on my trip, here's what i ended up buying:
Cat - Active Alaska
They're not the full on heavy style hiking boot, but they offer a lot more support then your average pair of trainers. They're super light and pretty damn comfortable, so i think that they're perfect if you're not doing anything too hardcore. That's my opinion anyways...

They look good to me. (Two things I look for - waterproof yet breathable and fairly light) If they fit you well then go for it. Also, don't forget the that socks you will use with the shoes are also important.

Well I actually opted for a different pair which got a great write up, and am now going to buy some nice wooly socks, thanks for the tips.
