Ok Kids,
I know what you're thinking "Jake arent you broker than chasinjason when he was a hooker?"

The answer is of course No. No one is ever that broke. But I am close. Anyway on to the point.

I bought the Pathfinder and it only has a fm/am/tape player in it. So I'm thinking I will buy an Ipod and hook it up instead of buying a new deck. Duel purposes.
That and the locks don't always work.

So I've heard some uber-bad reviews on FM transmiters for Ipods in cities. I know for a fact that all the stations in Phoenix have been purchased for future use but I am wondering anyway.

Anyone use Itrip or anything similar? Or would a car adapter be just as good?

Furthermore why is the 20g Ipod only 50 bones more than the 6g mini?!?

fist of all I recomend not to even get an Ipod do the research...which I guess you are doing right now and fing a better brand... my brother is on his third Ipod because the pieces of crfap keepo breaking... i've heard of others with similar horror stories. and Apple is terrible on service... has any else had similar problems??

just my apple bashing review

I wish that i could reccomend a better brand but I really havn't done the research cause i am broke as well and think of a letter better things to spend my money on than an Ipod... like a new back pack and a new pair of shoes and....

good luck with your decision and let us know what you decide to go with... becaus eone day i will have the money to buy an mp3 player cause I really would like to have one just not 400 dollars have on.

No. In fact I've had nothing but good things to say about Apple's service, and that's *without* getting their extended warranty thing. I'm not saying they have a halo over their head but they don't necessarily screw people over unilaterally, either.

My iPod is over a year old, its been though Europe, I listen to it every day (no joke) and I've never had a problem with it.

I'd reccomend getting one of these for your truck.

My buddy uses it in his jeep and he loves it. I'd think you would get better sound quality then with the iTrip, plus these adapters only cost like $20

I'm pretty sure you're paying for the size of the mini. I'd go with the 20g, you'll find so much use out of the extra space on there. I use my iPod for backup for all my pictures. I have about 5gigs worth on it....wouldn't be able to do that with the mini

i've got a cassette adapter I bought for use with my mp3/cd player (which consequently I could use in the pathfinder)

So I think i'll just stick with that... Now to decide on the ipod

I will add my thumbs up to the I-Pod debate. I have had my 20 gig for about a year and a half and it is still going strong. No issues.

As far as size goes (and as we all know, size DOES matter), I would highly recommend the 20 gig over the mini. I only have about 2 gig of space left on mine (maybe I have too much music)...but 5 gig does not seem like enough space to me. You need to think long term...as someone else mentioned, you might want to use it for pictures. You can also download books on tape. There are even news blogs you can download on a daily basis. I am sure more and more content will continue to come out that will potentially eat up your memory space. 15 gig for $50 bucks to me is a no-brainer.

I have a mini - and no problems...so far.

The only strange thing I've encountered was a suspect "fully charged" read on the lcd display when re-charging the iPod on diff. voltage in diff. countries.

It seems to run out of juice a lot faster than the manufacturer's claim of 8 hours charge, when I kept trying to re-charge in 220v and 240v respectively. (I was using Apple's world traveller kit thingie...)

But when I came back to america, it charged to "full strength", per say, all ok.

I've had an original 5gb iPod since the month they came out - it's old & big compared to the newfangle ones, but I've had no problems whatsoever.

The biggest problem a lot of customers have with the iPod is that the batteries lose their charge more quickly over time. People have tried to file lawsuits over this, since the battery is internally hardwired and consumers can't change them. However, the problem is not physically with the batteries themselves. The iPod, being a hard disk-based device, is subject to the same problem as any other hard disk on the planet - Fragmentation. The constant saving/deleting of files causes the data on the drive to become fragmented, thus requiring more disk activity over time - this then causes quicker battery drainage, even though you're using the iPod as much/little as before. The simple key to this is to occasionally defrag the iPod, as you would with your computer's hard drive. Another thing is that, as a rechargable battery powered device, you need to keep it conditioned. Although battery memory isn't much of an issue in these days of NiMH and Li-Ion batteries, it's still a good idea to not recharge until your battery's drained, and to always charge your devices fully before unplugging them for use...

Car adaptors: FM transmitters SUCK in every urban area. Especially if your antenna isn't located near where you keep your iPod. (For instance, most German cars now have the little fin antenna in the back.) Tape adapters are good - just make sure not to skimp and get one that has azimuth controls on the heads to make sure you're getting the best sound possible - usually they're only $10-15 more. The best option is if your head unit has an AUX in, then all you need is a miniplug-RCA Y-adaptor.

I wouldn't go for an ipod ether, their over priced because alot of people think their the only MP3 player out there. Creative have a good line of players one of them is really tiny it looks a bit like a mobile phone.

Those FM transmiter thingys are actually illegal in Ireland and the UK, I'm not sure about the rest of Europe. Technically you need a licence to use one because your broadcasting like a radio station, it's not enforced tough.

When I was in Singapore and was looking at purchasing an MP3 I found that the price of Creative compared to iPod was cheaper and it had greater storage.

I did get to listen to a Creative (but not an iPod) and the sound was awesome. I also managed to speak to a sound engineer who worked for Creative and he said that the sound quality and value of Creative was superior to iPod. He seemed to be genuine in his comments however still could be biased.

With anything I would do your research first before buying to determine which is more suited to your needs. If you can look past the popularity and trendyness of having an iPod there could be something better out there.

I do not own either.

I happened to hear about the Ipod2Car this weekend. Haven't tried it myself, but seems pretty interesting. I read another recent articel that said it costs about $325 installed. So...if you get a new car that you will keep around for awhile, this might be a good option to have installed (or install yourself if your so inclined).
