do NOT stay at the ideal youth hostel in barcelona!
it was positivly the worst place i had ever stayed!
First, there were no lights in the hallway. Wich is ok at night, you expect it to be dark, but not at 1 in the afternoon. I was put in a room w/ something like 20 people and 2 of the 3 showers were broken!
the staff would give out room keys to anyone who asked for one, just had to make up a dumb excuse like, 'my friend is stayin in the pink room and i need to go in and see her, can i have the key?' and that's the girls room! (yes, i'm a guy).
they asked that everyone leave an id at the desk to make sure you return the room key when you check out. A lot of kids were leaving their passports or drivers liscence; all of these were kept on the main desk that was often left unattended, anyone could easily swipe them! they had a stack of about 50 liscences and passports of 'unclaimed' id's.
a friend of mine was mugged and lost all her money, phone, passport, everything and all the girl could say when she asked for a access to her room at 3:00am was, 'you have to pay for the old one first!'
anyway, i could go on for another paragraph atleast, but that should be enough
i heard kaboul was good though
enjoy your travels!

Wow. I stayed there last April and didn't have any problems (except for the french students on school holiday in the room next to us that blasted Shania Twain at 9am.)
I was in an 8-bed mixed dorm that had a lovely clean bathroom / shower and a little balcony. I rather liked the place. *shrug* Oh, except there was a guy who had just come from Andorra who had the fucking nastiest smelling feet EVER-- over-ripe cheese feet. He said it had been "a while" since he showered, lol. We left the room for a while to leave him to it.

I stayed in Kabul and yeah it's clean and stuff but really not worth the money. If you're looking for a party yeah... but I'm pretty sure everyone in Barcelona is looking for a party no matter where you stay...
The +'s about Kabul
Clean
good Lockers
Nice guests
cheap (rather nasty) beer
on a beautiful courtyard
-'s
Pricey
Large key deposit
having to get there at 7am to get on a list to get a room
never eat the NACHOS
The cheap beer is gross.
Pretty small.
But it was good for my one night I spent there... the rest of my week was awesome somewhere else

I believe another TP compadre had a bad experience there last summer as well - don't remember which of y'all it was, but it didn't sound too pleasant.
I stayed at Hôme Guest House out in the suburbs - inconvenient location, but one of my favorite places to stay ever.
