Alright, I just stumbled across this message board and it seems to be pretty good so far. Worth registering for at least.
My name is Dustin, I am a 19 year old American (Not by choice), I have been traveling and teaching for the past two years mostly in SE Asia, I just returned to the United States on the 10th of March from Korea, I spent time in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, Korea, Japan, India...and so forth, I am heading back to Bangkok on the 30th of this month, just taking a break in the states settling some bills etc. Going to be teaching in Bangkok for another few months then off to do something else. Ummm...thats about it...
Dustin

hey man if you could give some insights as to what you teach, how you got the jobs, how you can leave in months instead of fulfilling year contracts, etc. We'd all be greatful.

Ok, I am going to hi-jack my own thread for a moment, to address that question.
First, I teach English. And its really easy to get the jobs the requirements are that your from a native english speaking country, and they prefer that your skin tone is white, asian schools are extremely racist. Most schools just want a warm body to stand up in front of kids, do some stuff on a black board and they get a chance to take lots of pics of you which they show the students parents and they get a chunk of money for having a native english speaking program.
How do I get the jobs?
Online most always, I did start out by walk-ins to schools, I even got hired by the school thats on Khao san road, so that shows you how many people are actually paying attention to their surroundings. From the second day I arrived in Bangkok from Hong Kong, I was working, teaching English, a pair of khaki cargo pants and a nice shirt was all I needed.
Of course the usual resources..
www.eslcafe.com
www.eslemployment.com
www.eslpro.com
www.ajarn.com
www.esljobmaze.com
Just search and ye shall recieve.
I dont leave my contracts incomplete instead I find jobs that need ASAP teachers, they will usually pay the airfare and get you in there, most of them only have 2-3 months left on a contract that someone else left hanging so I pickup URGENT and ASAP jobs, which has made me jump all over SE Asia. Now I am planning a long term stay somewhere, I am fielding like 300 employment requests.
I have attached a taste of my inbox to show you, how many jobs all over the world you can really get teaching, I am sure some of you asking, your 19 they want a degree. http://profiles.yahoo.com/tancred_213
B) Its called a life experience degree, it costs about 500 bucks, but you get transcripts, a degree, letter of recommendation, and its verifiable. Which means, its as good as it gets, because I have no desire to go to school, pay 70k for a degree and then return to SE Asia to make nickel and dimes to pay off my student loans. I think not....Life long Backpacker/Bum.

www.reddinguniversity.com
Are 2 examples.
That answers your teaching questions for now, if anyone really wants to get into detail you can PM me or email me, I have plenty of time to respond to e-mails.
Hope thats helpful.

It started off as a trip from hell, with phone calls to the parents within the first month asking for a plane ticket back that things werent exactly working out, but when they sent me money I took it and ran HAHAHAHHAHAHAH! I didnt know what I was doing, I just knew I wasnt going to give up....900 dollar start up budget led to the longest most exciting times, I stressed my way though it, after awhile it was great, and got better and better, but at first, I was quite scared being 17 and lost as hell over seas...

Again, wow ...
I really have looked into doing TESL - if things don't work out in Europe, we plan on hopping down that way.
