Well there I was having a great night with an Australian (Mick) and and Irishman (Jonny) and a Southern Cali Chick( Kate) and an Irish Lass (Rose), and we were having a great night at TRON, a pub just of the Royal Mile about 200 meters from Edinburgh castle, what a good time, you showed your hostel card and you signed up for a yellow card and badda-bing-badda-bang, 1P drinks!!! ( Wed. nights only) Which by Scottish standards is pretty dam good, we danced and drank and had an all round good time.

The pub closed at 1am, but when we left there was a guy out front handing out fliers for a nightclub that was open until 3am called THE LIQUID ROOM, so we headed over there, about 10min walk.....we got in line and we were just about to go in and the door man for what ever reason said that I could not go in, I asked why, and he said because he "did not like me", i was pretty shoked for not really doing anything while waiting except laughing at a joke that one of the others told...well i got testy with him and he became even more of a dick than he was being...so end result we ended up going to another night club.... I know it was not how i was dressed, because the others were dressed similar, and i did not say anything to him to bug him, he just was being a dick, i dunno, maybe because i was the tallest in the line..idunno? so please if you get the chance to travel to this great city....don't go to the LIQUID ROOM....you could end up in the same situation as me....

Yeah, it couldn´t have been you. You´re Canadian Dude! Did ya tell him that?! :D

Ahhhh fuggedaboutit... Bouncers can just be dicks sometimes .

You´re always meeting cool people on your trips and always have great stories to tell. So, all travelers (especially solo travelers) want to know, how do you meet these great people to party with? Do you have an opening line? Do you buy the group at a certain(friendly looking) table a round of beers? Do you say, "Hey, I´m Canadian Dude! And you are...?"

Backpackers want to know- "How do you ingratiate with people abroad ?"

Please, do enlighten us Master Chief .

hey cd ..that's freaky. your copying my trip. i stayed at the castle rock hostel and i also went to the tron on a wed. night. I still got my yellow card in my wallet. See don't you feel soooo connectedto me. we probably slept in the same bunk! hehe..I also went to this trendy club called the espionage. And a irish bar quite close to the hostel i think it was called finnegan something or other? Did you do the edinburgh pubcrawl?
yah i hate bouncers. They friggin suck. I'm sure you looked good don't worry. ;p

tp...i don't think he should use the "hey i;m canadian dude" line. If some guy came up to me and said that i'd be like "umm yeah bye" ...I make lots of friends when i travel abroad. Just be open to new things and people/ you might see someone that you would never ever associate with in your home life, but open up and forget about all the things your supposed to do and create new rules for your life. aight...and if that fails just get plastered and i promise you'll have a new makeout partner in a matter of minutes..

Aight! Word! Thanks for the tips, member #11 ( D´oh!) You´ve been with me from the beginning?! I love you, babe! Thank you for your support :D :P B) ! Oh happy daaaayyyyyy

Okay, actually I have no problem getting my funk on in the social mix :P I was just trying to help out the thousands of shy types that peruse these boards daily. Many travelers aren´t as open and unabashed at approaching strangers as we may be. Many first timers that are going solo are pretty frightened at the fact that they may not have anyone to really talk to and hang out with on their trip. They really won´t in all honesty, that is, if they don´t build the courage and make it a habit to walk up to people and start talking. Sounds simple, I know. But to some, it´s the hardest thing.

Follow Dio´s advice, y´all (cuz she´s member #11!) B)

You should take the Underground Vault Tour under the South Bridge. Very cool!

And if you meet one of the tour guides at the Nicol Edwards bar there named Katy A., tell her David from TX said hi, lol. Or a girl named Rosaleen at Greyfriar's Bobby Pub too...hehe

I dunno, I just kinda do, . To be honest, in the past it was easy, alot of times when your out treking, there are people there that are as lost as you. Right off the bat you have something in common, great conversation starter " You lost to huh?" say that with a laugh and wammo, intstant connection.
I always travel with a bottle of wine or Canadian CLub in my pack, there is no better way to strike up a conversation with someone than over a glass of wine or C.C. on the rocks, that by far is my #1 way of meeting great people. BE freindly and do not distrust someone until they give you reason too. I guess thats how I do it.
