ok so I am home woth my friends who I love dearly but am bored and restless. I have been home a week now and am going nuts. I know it passes but i hate real life at the moment. Why is it so hard to coome back, and why does it get worse every time I go away? abiout six mths to go till i leave for istanbul. Sorry about my balhing. I truely wish the world would forget all the steriotypes and bullshit we are fed and live in peace and acceptance of eachother. Challenge what you are told folks, the big people know nothing. we do. Be safe

I was in that "post trip" daze really bad for about 3 months...it was terrible. My work suffered the worst (actually got spoken to about "acting lost" )
All I can suggest is hang in there! Try to keep yourself busy. Take up a hobby, glue sniffing, eating paint chips, hanging around gas stations...well...maybe not these ones. I'm sure you can come up with something better.

thanks for your suggestions, though I may not take them up. I think coming home islike trying to come off the most amazing drug and there are all sorts of withdrawal symptoms that noone tells you about.

Gee...it's been three months since my last trip and I am STILL not quite right....and I was away for *only* two weeks....maybe we need to set up a TP post-travel mental blog somewhere, some kinda psychology help, for those (like me) who suffers from it.....heh.

I found it real tough to buy beer at the bar when I got home. I'd be all "$4.50 for a pint? Bullshit, I'm not paying that. It was $0.50 just a couple weeks ago! Gimme some of that stuff."

I'm going to an Irish pub tonight where they have a hot Welsh bartender and serve some decent English food.
Tomorrow night, I think I might head to Picaro for some cheapy-cheap tapas and sangria.
This is how I deal with my travel withdrawals.

I deal with it the same was Omi does... go out to dinner at places that remind me of my travels.
Personally, I think they should make a patch or a pill for travel withdrawls. Or at least put a disclaimer on your passport (Travelling may be hazardous to your health when you come home)...

I agree whole heartedly, there should be a travel warning for traveling. something along the lines of don't come back, it hurts to much! I was taslking to a guy at the singapore airoprt and he had actually changed flights and was heading back to where he had just come from, he told me that going home was a bitch and he was not going to do it. I hope he got where he wanted but it was incredable to see this strong and brave looking guy struggling with going home. Perhaps some of us are just not made for living in the real world.
I got qultes for flying to turkey yesterday and in the next few days I am going to set a date and start the countdown again!!

I had it really bad. so bad I left again as soon as I could without a return ticket. If I coud be anywhere in the entire world right now I suppose I'd be in Marrakech. Or perhaps Rabat with a few of my good friends from last summer. Or Thailand, tsunami notwithstanding.
I dont know what to tell you. I cant even tell you it will get better, I never got to that point. It helped me a little to approach everyday activities as if I had never been there before- taking a different bus, wandering down streets I hadnt been down before..

^Oh crap. How I wish I was now chilling in Rabat with a mint tea and my Barcelonan friend I made.
You'll find your way, it takes time, but it only takes one little thing to give you a reminder...the wishing begins again. Damn you steph.

I have a number of suggestions for those of you going through travel withdrawals.
1) Drink heavily and try not to look at your pictures.
2) Adopt a highway and spend your freetime picking up trash in a flourescent jacket with convicted felons.
3) Discover your home town, or if you are in a small town, the next closest big city. I was going through withdrawals too when I first came home. But I decided to see all the things in LA that I hadn't bothered to see in the past because the thrill of experiencing the unknown was still fresh in my blood. I haven't done much lately because I've been busy with work but I have to tell you, it really does work. I took my buddy's kids to the Natural History Museum. I took the metrolink(LA's version of mass transit by train) into downtown and walked up and down Olvera St. and walked by the "oldest building in Los Angeles"....circa 1816 or something. Pathetic I know. But anyway, I have to admit, I have never done many of the tourist things in my own city before, and it's actually been pretty interesting. Plus, I offered to show so many people around LA while I was on my trip, I figure I should know my own home town.....at least some of the things in the guide books.
So anyway, that's what I would recommend. It really does work and it helps you feel like more of a part of whatever area of the world that you are from. As part of my continuing education into the lifeblood of Los Angeles, I plan to buy USC football season tickets as well as a 10 game Dodger season ticket package. So if anyone is in town, lemme know. I'll show you what LA is all about.
