dude! why haven't i seen this post sooner? i live in dallas/ft.worth (arlington) and i'm from louisiana (LOVE new orleans). there is a pretty nice, cheap place to stay in n.o. called the pink house or something. scarlottedorian stayed there a while back and i think she'd highly recommend it, although i've never stayed there. i have family in baton rouge so it was never a problem to find a place to stay. actually, we did stay in a hotel one freaking block from jackson square but the only reason we could afford it was because we had four people in one little room. gee, that was fun, but not as fun as sleeping, drunk, in a car at a rest stop just outside new orleans. ahhhh.... memories. anyway, that would be awesome if we could meet up for drinks or whatever when you're in dallas. voyd lives in waco, but he's the only one i know of who's close. and i'll tell you what i told omisan when he went to n.o.-- eat at the napolean house. i still have dreams about their cheese platter...

Ya, I think gd is faar more familiar with DFW than me - I know they have some nice clubbing/bar districts, museums, shopping, parks and campuses - but I haven't really been there that much. It's really spread out. I periodically go up to a Taijiquan class or visit some friends, but that's about it.

And not sure what all you're into - but if you like paleontology there's Glen Rose dinosaur track park about 80 miles SW of DFW. That's actually pretty famous nationally, although I haven't been there myself yet.

Well, if you guys try to set up some meet-up, I might be able to drive up depending on when exactly it is... Also, I can give you some more tips on Austin, if you intend on passing through there. Anyways, come on down and welcome to the Dirty Souf, yo!

Woa, I just noticed today is my 2-year anniversary here! Wow, time suure flies!

There are just too many great places to eat in N.O. to mention them all. Cafe du Mond is a must for me when I go. If you have a chance on your way stop in Lafayette and eat at Randal's (get you some aligator) - YUM!

Thumbs up

Ok, I may be up in Dallas in 2 weeks - and it's been awhile.

Where's the best watering holes? In Deep Ellum or Lower Greenville, etc? Good place for sake? Or after-dinner wine? And I seem to recall West End is more for daytime activities?

And are there any affordable hotels downtown in the middle of all this action?
