Well I'm planning a trip to Europe in September 2006 and I would like to know what everyone thinks the best cities to visit are. The rough outline of the countries that I'm going to are England, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium. I'm not sure if I'll end up going to them all or if I'll add any more in. So which cities should I go to?

im sure you will get a lot of other questions and tips but here is what i can tell you. Unless you are planning to stay for all of 2006, you wont make all of those countries. Think of it this way:
12 Countries you have listed
X 2 Cities per country (on average)
X 3 Days per city (on average)
-----
72 Days you need - about 2.5 months. Again this is averaging 2 cities per country and 3 days per city. So first thing i would do is go over all of the cities that you think are "must see". This all depends on what type of person you are (i.e. if you are a shopper, paris is a must see; pothead - amsterdam; etc.). So i would do some research on the boards, most cities have info from all of these people who have been there. Hope this helps

You didn't list Holland. I think everyone should go to Amsterdam. That is where I am now. I love it. I am off to Berlin to visit an old friend. I think Berlin has received the best recommendations thus far. I will reply later after my trip for better ideas for you . This is my first time to Europe ever. I have been to Dublin and London already. London is VERY expensive so watch that budget.

Ive only been to France, Italy and London so far.
London is a must see, then a trip to Bath is also a delight. You can take tours that go to Stone Henge and the city of Bath in a day.
In france my favorite place was Nice its on the south coast near italy. Very cool town to walk around and nice beaches. I took a bus to Monte Carlo which is about 30 min north of nice which was real cool. Some of the nicest houses I have ever seen, much different from houses in the US.
In Italy Venise is a must see for me. Rome also a must see for the colloseum and the roman forum area. Im planning on visiting a few small Tuscan towns this trip. They might be kind of hard to get to as the rail doesnt go there. Montefioralle, and Cortona. Both in the southern region of Tuscany.
