WOOO HOOO!!! I just thought I would let you all know that after my travels through Europe this year I have decided to head off to Brazil for 6 months! I found a house in Fortaleza on the beach fully furnished with two bedrooms for 190 usd a month...190 USD A MONTH ON THE BEACH!!! Anyways I have a few friends down there that have persuaded me to do this but I was wondering if anybody who has been could give me a quick sshhhhpill on the cost of shite down there! I am going to have about 5000 usd for 6 months and I hoping that will do it! Let me know your thoughts folks. B)

Sounds like a dream, bro! It's great to see people living their dreams before the age of 65 Maybe that 6 months will turn into 6 years! You never know ^_^

I, too, will make it down to Brazil someday. It's on my "A-list" of countries to visit. $2,400 a year to live!? Damn straight!! B)

llemus I have a good friend in Fortaleza (very good looking also ) and she told me the other day that it is different for certain parts of the country. I can find out for sure if you tell me where you will be. From what I hear it is good to avoid the tourist scene in Rio, it is the biggest party of the Carnaval but it has gotten quite trendy from what I am told so I would suggest hitting up a more off the path city to party in. I can recommend so great places if you want. In my opinion Fortaleza seems to be the place to hit, I did plenty of homework and found it to be kind of hidden from most trendy tourist in Brazil. The poeple I know who live there have sent me pics of Carnaval 2003 in Fortaleza and I have to say that Im not sure I'll come out alive ...but I know it will be a blast. Also there is a hostel there that could get you a bed for about 4 bucks usd a night if you send them an e-mail in time. I have the e-mail addy if ya need. When you go you will want to buy your beer in advance...I am told the week of Carnaval (the last week of February) the start putting limits on the beer, and you can only buy 5 cases per person (of course there is always another store) but 5 cases wont cut it for me :P . Oh and plan on seeing a ton of nudity and getting downright tore up from the floor up because it is gonna be wild!!! :D

TUI you got me so pumped up already! All that information you gave me was great, including your very good looking friend. About the beer order me 15 cases! :D Because I will be ready to drink like a fish!

TUI send me some of those pictures of Fortaleza. you can send them to llemus7@zetzero.com

I got the dates for Fortaleza! they start to party on the 21st of February but the actual parades start on the 25th and go for 4 days. She tells me that if you arrive at the main strip at about 5 pm you get to participate in the "lets get drunk and throw flour and eggs at each other" event (you bet your ass I'll be there!). The parades and and drums go till about midnight and then the entire city sort of migrates to the beach for an all nighter until the sun comes up, then its home for some rest and back at it the next evening. It is total madness for those four days, no rules, everyone is drunk, high and naked by the end of the night and its all about da love baby! Anyways I have decided to snag a one bedroom pad because the price drops to about 150 bucks a month and over a six month period that would save me about 240 bucks, doesnt sound like much, but when you consider a beer at the local pub cost about 50 cents...thats just under 500 beers (there is my first night of drinking taken care of), but if you need a place to crash let me know, I'll have a hammock and a shower you can use. I'll get you those pics sometime today (Wednesday).

there is also a rumour that the beach from the movie "The Beach" is just outside of Fortaleza! Several Brazilians are swearing by it but I'll believe it when I see it! B)

I hope I didnt say 2400 a year because Im not sure if thats possible, but I know its gonna be pretty damn cheap! Im looking at about 5000 for 6 months and I hear that I should live like a king for that much money!

As far as finding a place...if ya dont know portuguese your fucked!!! There is no site in english that shows the "non-tourist" places to rent so all you will find is the expensive vacation homes in english. My girlfriend was born and raised in Fortaleza so I kinda have a head start , and she assures me that there are many nice houses for rent at about R$ 500 a month!

When are you planning on going? Im heading down there in February.

Question

well i went 2 currency converter website and u get 3 brazil dollars for every u.s. dollar------which is good, i wont be down there in feburary.....if i do try to move there it would be a year from now the way things are now.......but things change and anything is possible, i figured u would have to have someone on the inside to get a deal living there....when the time comes again ill do a new post and hopefully you'll still be on the boards...

yeah the exchange rate is definatly in our favor, a beer will cost you about R$ 1.50 and that would come about to usd $ .50 for us so its a good thing, you just have to make sure that as soon as you exit customs you run from the tourist trap ASAP, run like there is no 2morrow, and dont look back, and when you leave the tourist area, you'll find exotic beaches, exotic music, exotic people, and exotic culture, all for cheap. B)
