<_< Watch out for hostels in Alaska. The worst hostels I have ever used. There are very few and most have lock out hours from 9 to 5 and lock up at 11. Some are run by churches and have zero partying. Watch out in Wrangle and Ketchican. Alaska pretty much sucks in the hostel scene.

That sucks. I havenīt been to Alaska yet, but have always wanted too (as I grew up in Seattle).

Thanks for your warning!

the youth hostel ANNEX in anchorage is absoloutely fabulous - about a 1920's
cottage with neat comfortable bedrooms and they leave fresh fruit etc on fridge for you every morning - its only about 100 metres from the main hostel and easy walk from station - real nice - some of the others in alaska are real firetraps including one which would you beleive is run by a volunteer fire chief!! true!!

This is a great hidden hostel tip for those visiting the "Ice Box."

Canīt go wrong with fresh fruit, too!

I liked the international hostel in Juneau.

And the hostel in Ketchikan is nice, it's in a church! It's clean and they have free breakfast (simple breakfast though) and coffee/tee/hot chocolate). Disadvantage is that you are waked up at 8 by a lady cleaning the dorm, and that you have to leave at 9 and return not before 6, which can sometimes be not so nice since it's almost always raining in Ketchikan. But overal I really liked the hostel :-)
