Thumbs down

Hey people, just found out about the site so I joinned up.

This post is just to get some advice.

Let me first start off with the fact that so many people travel all over the world, just to check into somewhere with all the comforts of home. Don't most of us travel to see new things, do things that we have never done or even though of, if even aware of the many, many different things this wide world has to offer.

I'm quoting my self here....

"It's a small world after all if you are born and die within a two mile radious, but if you go forth, don't look back ever, you'll realize that it's a much bigger world then you could ever imagen".

My point is everyone is always doing the same shit and it's getting old even faster. That's why I'm looking for 3-4 people, anyone with the guts to suck it up and hit the road for months for one of the biggest backpacks in quite some time. I'm talking from the Europe to Asia. London to Thailand, and spend a few night's on some islands with only the company of the few people you've made it there with.

Now that's traveling (to me). Meeting a group of people that you have no idea of anything their into, what they like, you never even met them b 4 in your life and now it's just you and them for the next few months. Getting to know them better than most of the people you'll know your whole life. Your a few new friends on a short journey through life together. When you have people that don't have any past bullshit and a lot of new stuff to see and do together, trust me you open up and really get to know some one.

I know that no-ones really going to jump at this, but that's ok, because I'm an Individual and what I like is not for every one. I'd even say not for many people. But if your one of those free souls that's itching to get out there where few people have been, meet new people that are fun, supportive and love Beaches, Islands, Moutains and the unknow.... Get in touch with me >>> Syirous@NYCMail.com or Syirous@Travelpunk.com. We'll chat.

Do you mean going overland from London to Thailand? That could be a crazy time, taking you over some of the most wild and dangerous places on earth.

I think about doing something very similar to that quite often. My only hang up is that little area just past Iran.. I hope by the time I graduate college it'll be a little calmer. Anyway.. The tone of your post kind of cracks me up.. hehe. You remind me of the self-righteous preacher who was here on campus earlier this month... I started talking to him, trying to piss him off really, and when I lit up that was it. He told me that I was going to go to hell. woohoo

but anyway... Next year I'm studying abroad in the Mid East, and I am thinking very seriously of travelling solo between semesters.. I want to do a whole circuit of the mediterranean.

A few crafty boat rides and you could miss most of the drastic areas. Of course in my plan of basically a round the world trip I was going to dip into northern africa too. Then jump across the arabian peninsula and try and get from the UAE to India and head across from there.

Sounds cool, I was thinking something along those lines, but I'm also going north as well. Germany and Russia. Is there any parts of Asia that I should worry about? you know like places that a white American would get his head chopped off for just being there?

Yeah Syirous, I hear ya. While traveling doesn't mean you have to live in poverty and squaler, I want to do more than just see the sites. I want to experience the culture. To me, traveling is sitting in a local cafe and talking to some locals - not taking the guided tour of a castle or church.

I want to do an around the world trip some day. Perhapse in a couple years after my time in London. I'm not getting any younger though.

Afghanistan, Iraq and parts of Pakistan would definitely be very dangerous for an American/European to travel. I honestly think you would have no problems in Iran, and likely few if any in the other Central Asian countries. I am not speaking from experience, though, just reading lots and lots about the area over the years.

Probably the biggest hassle you'll have will be arranging visas for all those countries, crossing borders and such...

Good luck, it sounds like quite the adventure!

I would have to agree with Mike on the afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq as being the most dangerous.

How much of Russia were you planning on seeing? Just places like Moscow and St. Petersburg or traveling farther east?

Other countries to keep an eye on as far as small occupations and disputes:

Armenia & Georgia both boardering Azerbaijan. Which borders Iran and the Caspian Sea. They have a territory dispute with military occupation.

Minor internal situations in countries like uzbekistan, tajikistan, turkmenistan, krgyzstan, etc.
