Hey guys and gals,

just wondering what the general thought is about backpacks and how good they need to be. Can I buy a cheap $200 AUS and get away with it, or do u think I need to buy one with back support and all the rest?

Just a bit weary that if I buy a really good backpack it calls out to the world, check inside this pack for really cool stuff to steal!!

Thanks in advance!

Dave.

Hello, I had the same question as above. I went to the backpack page link and found all of the essentials and perks a good pack has, and I was wondering if any of you could recommend a specific pack that has all or most of:

Review:
Ideally you want to have a backpack with an...
Internal frame
Does it have a removable daypack? Get one with a daypack! Trust me on this one!
Spinal Chimney (not necessary, but helpful)
Padded straps and hip-belt
Lockable zippers
Side pockets (for quick access items-water/map,etc...)

I am thinking around 75L should be enough for me, considering that I usually pack heavy, for our 3-4 month excursion.

I found this and that and I was just curious as to what you veteran backpackers have to say (this will be my first trip).

We plan on doing campsites and what not more than hostels so I need a pack that can really stand up to the test.
Thanks - Paul.

I have this pack and I like it a lot.

The day pack is very easily zipped on and off and has two main compartments and 3 other smaller pockets.
The main pack opens all the way for easy access to everything in your pack. The main flap has a mesh lining for seperating dirty clothes from clean and a small pouch for odds and ends. It has a compartment on the bottom for shoes, books or anything else you want quick access to without opening the whole pack. The shoulder straps are fully adjustable and can be covered by a zipup flap for checking in at the airport. The back of the pack is framed by padded aluminum and it holds it shape very well.

Some people prefer the top-loaded traditional hiking packs over the travel packs because they are much more adjustable which means it will be more comfortable for long walks, so keep that in mind as well.
