I want to travel but I have no one to travel with. With security in mind, is it wise to travel alone, being a girl? I want to go to Europe.

Do it. Go alone, be brave, fall in love, see everything, keep your eyes and options open and if you want to travel with people, you'll fall in with fellow travellers. As long as you keep aware and informed about your surroundings (dont wander around alone drunk after dark, for example) you ought to be perfectly safe. Do it!

European cities are just as dangerous as American cities. If your comfortable walking around in an American city you'll be fine in Europe!! Also, going alone is awesome!! You'll meet tons of people at youth hostels that you'll hang out with. I think it's more fun going alone, nothing holding you back or whatever and it's easier to meet more people.

I feel the need to not agree w/ Ryder. The great thig about most European cities is that the worst thing that can happen to you is a robbery. I don't know where you're from but I live in LA, Cali where a wrong step can lead you into a gun pointed at your chest for no good reason.
My only skechy instance in London, for instance, was at 3 or 4 in the AM and my girlfriend and I had started to walk home from a club when we walked by a couple of "iffy" looking guys in SoHo. It ended up that these "scary" looking guys only wanted to know if we wanted a cab. I've been telling people that the great thing about Europe is that the worst thing that could happend to you is that you get robbed. I don't know about you but if that is my biggest worry in life, I'm doing pretty good

I will agree with Ryder in a sense. I feel Europe is only as dangerous as America is. I have lived in, around, near, whatever you wish to call it, Detroit my whole life. As most people talk about, Detroit is usually picked as one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. I am sure aside from war torn cities it is probably up there as far as the world is concerned too. Yet, I have never had a single problem in Detroit. Sure sometimes I have had a few 'sketchy' situations, but I have been in many areas of the city that most would never venture to on their own. If I survive Detroit for 25 years, I am sure I can handle any city in Europe.

So my whole point is, there really isn't much to worry about. Just don't do anything that would make you vulnerable. I would take Belle's advice.
