briley ~ I got to stop at Vilo do Porto for one day, by luck really. It was beautiful! I really don't know much about the Azores in general, but there are volcanic craters as you mentioned. It is certainly a place I would like to go back to and explore! Are you planning to go?

A friend of mine was stationed there in the Air Force. He said it was beautiful. If you have any questions, I could relay them. Of course, it's been a decade or so since he's been there, but he might remember...you never know!

i haven't been there but was planning to for a very long time until something happened and i couldn't go anymore....
anyways, there's big but sort of unknown airline that flies from there, SATA. They fly to Boston, Providence, Montreal, and Toronto and then a bunch of places in Europe.

if you're going to book with them i'd call them because their website isn't that great.
anyways, good luck with your trip!! post pictures!!

Sorry, there isn't an English version but it basically says that they'll start flying from Ponta Delgada(Azores) to London Gatwick between April 5th and October 25th of 2005. They'll fly iit 3 times a week, and the price will be £217 during the "low season" for round trip and £249 during the "high season".
and if you want to reserve tickets or have any questions e-mail: ukflight@sata.pt
