You will first need a Travel Adaptor , and you will have to check the voltage. As for useing the plug outlets in the hostel, I would try and make arrangments with hostel staff to charge your stuff in a place where the can not be stolen, like behind the counter or in a "staff only" area. If you do it in you room, especially dorm rooms, you will run the risk of getting your stuff stolen.

I saw lots of people charging cell phones in the hostel rooms. Yeah like cd said I thnk i'd talk to the staff about finding a safer way esp. since sometimes theft can be a problem in hostels as it is everywhere else. And trust me a cell phone/discman to a poor traveller will look very nice B)

Nice link, CD! That just about covers the adapter questions

When you´re having your morning coffee at some nice cafe or updating yourself on current world events at the local internet cafes, plug your phone or camera in next to your computer(so you can guard it like a hawk!). At internet cafes you can spend great amounts of time there so take advantage of that time by recharging the goods. Just be careful with your stuff .
