I have 2 weeks to explore New Zealand. Based on others advice, I have decided to visit only one of the two islands. I would rather take my time and enjoy each city than always be traveling and fighting time. So the question is which island should I visit?
I am a 21 year old American student who will also be studying abroad in OZ for 5 months following my trip to NZ. I will be in NZ from January 25-Feb 9. I would like to skydive and/or bungiejump while I am there. I don't care for hiking or biking. I like warm weather and big cities with a lot to do. Most of all I enjoy new cultures and meeting new people. I am doing research but it is so hard to choose. Based on what I described, I need some people familiar with NZ to help me out!

I recently got back from a trip to NZ, OZ and Fiji. Ive been to both the north and south islands of NZ and my advice would be the south island for sure! There is soooooo much to do there! Here is a list of stuff i did and would gladly give you more info if you want
Kaikoura-dolphine swimming
nelson-sky diving and mountain biking
Christchurch-awesome city, nightlife!
Queenstown- must do thrilogy bungy! shot over boats, para-bungy!
Mt. Cook- mountaineering, skiing, glacier boat tour (rad!), fishing, hiking
Wanaka- rock climbing
Route burn track- you say you dont like hikes? neither did i until i did this one!
Fox Glacier- glacier hike, and ice climbing
I did a lot more, but these were the best! The south island is where its at! The scenery is also gorgeous!
hope this helps, if you need more info let me know!
cheers!

Ryder-OZ is Australia!
Yeah, I've heard the same thing about the south island as what you've said Breezy. I am contemplating studying there in either Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch, so would Christchurch be best? Anyone?

Yes! Christchurch would be a great place to study! Another amazing city is Queenstown. Its known as the adventure capital of the world! The mountains are breath taking there and the people are so down to earth and friendly. Either city is a good choice. Christchurch for the culture and the nightlife and Queenstown for the adventure and the people!
Good Luck!
Cheers

lol you wanna study in chch??
ive lived in nz for uhh 20 years ....chch is quiet, slow and cold.@
id say auckland has better universaty, or even wellington. and at least theres somewhat of a city to hang out in.
south island is MUCH more scenic and the poeple are much nicer down there. in the north island i suggest anywhere above auckland...whangerai ( old persons town, everyone seems to be over 50yrs!) and the wicked beaches above that... bay of islands etc.
