My boyfriend and I are off to europe for a 3 month look around from nov to feb 2005
So here's my buget (each) per day:
15 accommodation
10 food
5 extra travel
10 fun
= 40 euro per day
We've bought a 2 month 5 bordering country eurail pass for: france, italy, switzerland, spain & germany & we've got family to stay with in switzerland. We both don't drink but love partying + it's winter, will this save us any $?
What do you all think? The change over from New Zealand$ to euro is horrible!!!! 1 euro is 1.85NZ argh!!!
YAY!!!! :-) I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THOUGH!!

Is that budget per person? You should be pretty good then, maybe a little extra for accomodation. Also, depending where you go in France and Germany, you might spend a little more. Being that it is the winter, you will save on your accomodations and on some sites, but everything else will remain constant price wise. Since you like partying, if you do go clubbing it can get costly in some areas just for cover. In Spain, I have found that cover can be anywhere from free to 15 euro (but this usually includes a drink)

You'll get reamed with club covers in Paris (not to mention that the dress code can often be harsh) but anywhere you go in Europe to party, look for a DJ Bar - it's like a club, only without the cover or mega soundsystem

It's a generic term... It's like a club w/o the attitude!

Your budget will be plenty. The only thing is, if you like to drink well drinks, then bars and clubs will get very expensive. Most countries a beer will only be around two euro, but from what I was told with mixed drinks, you pay for the shot and the coke/tonic/whatever so a mix drink comes out around seven euro in some places (they are very cheap out East).

Great topic nzcarolyn, I'm planning to go to Europe next year to see England, France, Spain and Portugal and I myself wondered about a budget that would allow us to be sort of "comfortable" without ripping our pockets, so you guys think that for a trip around the main cities of these countries, with a little "clubbing" no drinking though (well, maybe a tiny bit.... ) maybe 50/60 Euros a day would be good????? I was looking at the EasyJet and RyanAir sites, what's that?? Flights for 15 Euros?? Wow!!! American needs to follow along!!!!!!!

Jive,
These may be things you've already thought of but three tips in regards to cheap drinking.
When going to a bar ask what the specials are. I'm finding where I am specials change nightly and they will almost always have a beer special and a mixed drink one. The less picky you are the better.
If you're doing mixed drinks, buy doubles. Usually the second shot is 1/2 the price of the first and they use the same amount of mixer. Maybe double check this at your first few places becasue it might vary.
Drink before you go out. It's always cheaper than at the bar.
