Hi, I am thinking of a backpacking trip to Washington and New York in the next month or so. Has anyone backpacked there before? Any advice? :D

Hi. I'm from New York City. And I recommend coming here. There is a hostel right in Times Square. And I think it's only $25-$30 a night. There is so much to do here. Even on a tight budget. You can always buy the unlimited week Metrocard for $21 and it takes you to all of New York City (all 5 boroughs) unlimited. Buses and subways. And in the Village there are plenty of cheap restaurants bars. Much stuff do to. But come soon because it gets cold in the Winter! Hope you have fun.

Never done it myself, but Ive seen others doing it and I know there are some hostels in the city. Washington is a great becuase there is so much to do there for free. The Smithsonians, monuments and stuff like that, plus there is just a lot of stuff going on there in general. The nightlife is great too, those interns and staffers can get pretty wild.

Thanks! It's good to know that I can still enjoy the cities on a tight budget. Planning to go probably in late October.

If you're looking for a travel buddy, I'm heading east when I take off from here (San Antonio, Texas), Washington, and NYC, being two of my planned stops. I'm backpacking and hitching, maybe bussing some places, and would love to have someone to travel with.
