Hey all
I have been reading the boards and everyones planning seems to take them quite some time. Im heading to Oz in Sept or Oct. depending on the money, and so far the only thing I have planned is the destination. I thought I would go and totaly wing it, but im starting too think that this may not be the best idea, I have no idea where to start with and plans what should I do what would you all reccomend, Or would you say hell, winging it is fine too.
Also I thought for plane tickets I would go sit in the airport unitil a last minute flight too melbourne shows up for super cheap that leavs right away, has anyone done this, you know what Im talking about right, itheres a booth that shows last minute flights too wherever for like 600 bucks, has anyone tried this ??

Hey newbiepacker! I COMPLETELY understand your concern. I'm not sure how long you're going to Oz for (or if you even know how long!) but I am going to Europe this summer for 2 months and am "winging it" pretty much. I have a general idea of what direction I'm taking throughout, and hostel reservations for the first 3 nights, but that is about all.
So that being said, I think it is doable. (Then again, I haven't tried it yet and am nervous, but I am nervous in general b/c this is my first time!) I am going to try and get hostel reservations for the next destination about 2-3 days in advance, when I know what I'm doing. But I must say I would've planned a bit more, but this is a last minute trip; I bought the ticket 3 weeks ago and just graduated from college so have been crazy busy, and I leave next week. If you would feel better planning, you certainly have the time, and plans can (usually) be altered!
I don't know about a last minute flight to Oz, but it sounds like its definitely worth a try, if you're patient and not in a hurry to get over there.
Wish I were going..........Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey newbiepacker....
If you want to come to OZ why not start it with Sydney? We have a big Folk festival held in september and if you interested you can join as a volounteer. That way you can meet a lot of domestic backpackers also from overseas that you might can share tent and experiences with. Some food will be supplied and the best thing is there will be lots of entertainment such as music shows, dance shows and others cool stuff.
<sorry my english is suck>
Im wayan from Bali currently studying in Australia
