I am really excited and I would like to spend most of my time in italy and spain. I wish to stay for 1 month about how much cash do I need? Thanks

Sure it is, I have never had any safety concerns about staying in hostels, though there is other things ya gotta watch for, location, cleanlyness, helpful ness of staff and that type of thing...If you check the Hostel Recommended section of the boards you can find lots of places to stay in Europe.

what should I expect?

Everyones trip is different, and people travel ofr different reasons. My advise is to keep an open mind, alow yourself to expeience new things, and be open to new customs and culteral differences from your own...Its your trip, make it what you want it to be.

You can do it on a super cheap budget or a real pricey one..an nice happy medium I think would be between 60-70 Euro a day that will cover food, a bed and some sights, and transport within cities. Add the long distence transport cost to the overall budget of your trip.
