Places/Things of interest LA -> up and around to -> Canada

Still planning etc, but just putting the feelers out on things that are worth checking out... Plan is to fly into LA i think now, then head up the coast and into canada and basically head across canada to perhaps as far as winnipeg...

I know its rather vague but some input from some people here will help me mould a bit of a rough itinerary...

Love outdoorsy type stuff, odd little towns - places of cultural significance etc etch...

...also, best modes of transport to get around in both countries, now that is important.
