Default Another backpacker enters the fray!

Thought I would introduce myself as I join the masses in planning a backpacking trip to Europe!

I was originally planning to go in March 2011, but circumstances have changed in that I will be able to save enough money to go for March 2010 and my job is driving my crazy enough to want to take off for a while! Actually, a while for me means 8 months, woot!

I'm a pretty "plan" orientated person and while I will be doing research and setting out a rough itinerary before I go, I really want to leave myself flexible enough to add/subtract days as I see fit. I did a backpacking trip in Japan for 2 weeks and definitely over planned it, so trying to take a better approach this time. I'm looking forward to picking the brains of those who have gone before me!

Welcome to the boards! Feel free to post some of your tips for Japan (I did about 10 days a few years ago and loved it but kept it pretty basic Tokyo, Kyoto, Kawaguchiko (Mt. Fuji), Hiroshima (day trip from Kyoto--woo shinkansen)

Having a plan is good, but having flexibility is better
