That's what happens when the Economic reporter tries to write a travel article...! All tied up in percentages and trends rather than the simple question, "How much does it cost?" I'm sure if you compare the amount of money you spend on lodging, food and sights, Sweden is #2 on nobody's list...

I was really excited/surprised about Fiji... I want to go SO bad. ponying up $1600 for airfare will never happen - not anytime soon anyway. LOL

Laos is the cheapest country Ive been too...50 Cents beers (the big bottles) and the cheapest I spent on a bed for the night was $1.50....But I guess as far as first world countries go then $5 for a beer in iceland is pretty good.

I read an article last year about how Paraguay was THE cheapest country to visit, I even posted a link on here to the article. Too lazy to look it up though haha.

Nic - thats why you do a trip to nz & oz with stop overs in fiji rather than spending all that $$ on an airfare just to see fiji! Although you have get to away from touristy areas to get a good deal over there from what I have heard!
Sweden cheap?! Hmmm I wouldn't have thought so either - will have to go there and find out

Nic, if your heart is set on Fiji, keep a regular eye on Arthur Frommers Budget Travel magazine's "40 Best Deals." There are always air fare and a week's hotels for about US $1,000 in there...
Not saying you SHOULDN'T go visit Amanda in NZ...we should ALL go visit her, for that matter...!

True dat. You have to remember that this is Forbes magazine, after all. It's not really targeted towards US but towards the investment banker who lost his job and now only has $10,000 to spend on vacation rather than unlimited amounts.
