First of all, I need to mention Goat Hostel because they are a top hostel in Budapest, run by good people, and a great value. However, it doesn't fit your needs. I'm only saying it in case your friend changes their mind.

Otherwise, just take a look on Hostelworld.com and sort by ratings. I've stayed at a few different ones here in BP and generally if it has a good Hostelworld.com rating then its good place to stay.

You never listed your dates so I picked a random weekend near the beginning of June (places are usually busiest/most expensive over weekends so I figured this would be worst-case scenario stuff).

The Riverside Hostel has twin privates or dorm rooms. The twins are from £28.08 pppn. You said they wanted a single private though - they'll go to Budapest for 4 days with you but won't share a room???

Check out Etap hotels, at www.accorhotels.com

They are pretty bare bones, but have a bunk bed and en suite. We've stayed in them often and they are reliably clean, safe and adequate, though don't have the hostel atmosphere. Off hand I don't know that they are in Budapest, but it's worth checking. Typically they run between 29 and 45 Euros/night, depending on the city and location. We rented a flat for a week in Buda, which worked well for our family of 6 at the time. It's another option, but requires a little more research. And, again, you trade privacy for collegial atmosphere.
