Travel plans for next summer
hey guys, i wasnt sure where to post this but ill give it a shot here.
it's not that far off believe it or not, some hostels (w.europe) have said they are already booking for june and filling up fast.
im thinking of doing a nice little three weeks around eastern europe (with a couple of stops along the way from london) and heading out to bangkok for two weeks in september.
gotta start planning now, because its all about the money!
whats your plans?

I find it hard to believe hostels are already being booked for next June.
You won't have nearly as much trouble booking places in Eastern Europe as you will the west.
As for me I'm hoping to a South East Asia trip, but I want to make it as long as possible so it's hard to find the time between Uni and Work.

i was just 'researching' the market and one hostel in amsterdam emailed me back saying that while they wasnt full, like myself, people had got in touch looking to big, that might have been big groups maybe; they didnt say.
i wanted to initially do a more in-depth se asia trip but like you, juggling working and learning seems to be getting more and more difficult so i had to narrow it down. in that two weeks, i hope i can see more of thailand than just bangkok but depending on funds and other peoples plans, we'll see.

The Hostels may say that only to get you to book. Tourisms way down in Europe we're all in recession too. I don't expect things to be as busy as previous years.

Hmmmm, true in most of EE except Prague, Krakow and Budapest that are becoming as popular of a destination as Western Europe capitals.

I never seem to have any "real" travel plans. Boo.
This summer just been, I had a little reunion with my friends from uni, we went "posh camping" on a farm in big tents that were more like houses. We want to do a yearly reunion, so next year we're thinking of going to Cornwall and staying in a couple of cabins in the woods by a lake. They're beautiful, and split the cost between 8 of us, for 4 days it doesn't work out too expensive.
I'd love to have a "proper" trip, but I'll be starting a real job next year (fingers crossed) so won't be getting much time off!

I will be in Washington state for about 40 days of the summer (maybe a little less) playing Army, but then I am (hopefully) doing study abroad for summer session II from end of July to mid September in CHILE!!!!! :D it's a combo of an archaeology field school and a Spanish program.

Well, my plans are basically 6 weeks in America, and then hopefully depending on work, I will be seeing a bit of Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
As for now, I have 12 days to go before leaving England to go back to Cape Town for a 3 week holiday. Will be good to get some sun!!

I'm doing a research assistantship to pay for my grad school, so I'll be working most of the summer. I'm hoping to do a bit of traveling after I graduate the following year, but that depends on if I have any money still saved up at that point.

As with what raoulduke said, I find it hard to believe hostels are being booked now. But early planning is always good =)
Hmmm good question. Well my current job ends at the end of August, I might try to go on a month travelling EITHER down the Western Coast of the USA or maybe all those Middle Eastern countries I missed the first time around.
I dunno... all plans are tentative for now.

A fun thread. for me, I have no idea what I'll be doing for work, so there's a chance that I won't be taking much, if any, time off next summer. I have been talking with a friend about biking from Minnesota to the West and SW of the states. I've never been beyond WY-CO area.
Prices for us Americans are actually pretty cheap to head over to Europe. Last summer when I was there, it was the most expensive it has EVER been. So go now!
I'll probably end up doing some weekend camping on lake Superior.

Haha, I'm too excited, really hope I can afford to go! Nothing is set in stone yet, but fingers crossed it'll work out! I went twice when I was a kid, and I went to Disney in Hong Kong a couple of years ago, I love it!

the program I was looking at is in Santiago, depending on when I have to go play army (I'll know a little more in a few weeks specifically when), I may not get to go.
my backups include a bioarchaeology field school in June & July or staying in Columbus and doing a forensics field school
