adding more pages to a US passport
OK I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it in a search. Has anyone ever been overseas and got more pages in their passport from the US embassy? How long did it take? I need more in mine but I don't want to give it up to the govt for 6 to 8 weeks bc I might need to send mine out for a student visa soon.

I'm not full yet guys! w/ the (hopefully!) addition of my student visa I'll be down two. The Russians want two empty pages for a student visa. If my study abroad thing works out I'll be doing an eensy bit of traveling beforehand so, clack goes the stamper taking up more pages! Then I'll really be low. and some people's stamps are really big too, the Irish take up half a page!

I just thought I would bump this up, because it happened to me while I was abroad. Literally, just find the nearest US Consulate/embassy online and check that it has American services for adding pages to your passport. Then, you can either send it to them or bring it in yourself. It's free and when I was in Berlin I got it done. Took 30 minutes and I got a little American Flag for the 4th of July!

I was reading about this the other day, apparently they'll do it at a consulate and it's super easy just like you found. I even read that you don't have to bring it yourself if you want to send someone else to do it.
But apparently trying to get more pages in the US is a big hassle. Once you're outside the country it's much easier.
Incidentally I looked at my passport and I have room for 39 more stamps...it kind of looked respectably full till I started counting! But each border crossing is usually 2 stamps so you can fill those in a hurry. My passport expires in May of 2011 so I need to GET TO WORK.

Yeah I went in with my friend to the embassy here in Kuala Lumpur and it didn't take very long at all...definitely less than a day.

I did it in Dublin on my way back to the US in February. Sadly, as expected, the extra pages are the ugly new design. It didn't cost anything and while it wasn't very quick (probably two hours total wait), it was quite easy.

Yeah don't go to the embassy in Dublin. I avoided it completely because they were all pissy on the website about how you needed to have only x amount of pages left before they would put more in. I went to the one in Budapest and it took 10 minutes.
