Default Wombat's Hostel - Munich, Germany

This hostel was SOOOO COOL! Free drink at the bar when you first get there, they give you a little ticket. The atmosphere was very cool indeed. The common area with the hammocks and bean bag chairs were awesome.

I stayed in an 8 person dorm, rooms were fairly clean, people there were all awesome. 1 bathroom for the whole room, drain clogged a little and the shower started to fill up if you stayed in too long but whatever.

There's all sorts of pamphlets for shit to do in Munich in the lobby (and they do their own free walking tour of Munich each morning too), but they have some huge thing against the bike tour "Mike's Bikes" and the guy, Mike, will tell you that too if you ever do their tour. I don't know what it is but they can't advertise inside Wombat's but if you go outside during the day and round the corner there are folks from Mike's Bikes who will hand you shit, no worries.

Location is clutch - right across the street and over 1 street from the hbf. Doesn't get any better than that. The main shopping area/square is a short walk away. Good subway options, etc.

I thought this was the coolest hostel I'd stayed at my whole time in Europe.

Get the breakfast for 3 euros (you get the ticket at the check in desk), and it's a big buffet type. Make a sandwich and wrap it up for lunch if you're really on a budget!

Thanks for the review, Nic!

I second this review. I was there in 2006 and we chose it because it took us literally less than 5 minutes to get there. the bar is great too. we did the walking tour and had an absolutely awesome time. I'll be returning there very soon, as well as Wombat's in Vienna! I actually liked the Vienna Wombat's even better than Munich.

I really liked this hostel, I could only book my first couple of nights there then had to move next door to Jaegers, Jaegers was still pretty good but I spent most of my time drinking at Wombats.

Wombats in Vienna was good fun as well.

Also if you're too cheap for Mikes Bikes there is a free bike tour company which was pretty good.

Another tip for Wombats. The food in Munich can get boring fast, I found a really great, yet affordable Thai restaurant in the street behind the hostel. It's well hidden amongst a bunch of mobile phone shops but well worth finding.
