Hi all - so I applied to this alternative journalism program at northwestern. Supposed to hear by this Friday. Not even sure I want to participate in the program. I think it wouldn't hurt to go, if I were accepted, since it might help me develop other aspects of my writing. I don't think I have a big chance of getting in since there are more than 2K applicants for 10 spots, and I don't have journalistic background. So even though it's not a big deal for me one way or the other, I find myself anticipating the big day, Friday! Thus is human nature, I'm completely fine working on my Novel manuscript and travel memoirs, yet a little part of my ego seems to count on this summer program thingy as external validation of my writing... we'll see!
Hope you get in! But if not, don't take it personally.... recruitment processes and selections are brutal and I believe it is entirely up to whether you have good luck on that particular day!! I've had to watch some of my multi-talented, driven and fantastic friends not even get interviews for graduate programs that they could do with their eyes closed... its just not meant to be.
