macs + digital cameras
okay so I just switched over to a mac (hallelujah! - got a macbook the other day) and my fam just presented me my very late birthday present... a brand new nikon cool pix S600 (mine was in dire need of being replaced... it was so hard to take pictures that weren't blurry cos I'd dropped it so many times).
so anyway, I want to know all you mac users who enjoy photo editing.... which program is better... adobe photoshop for mac or that aperture 2 that apple has out? I've pretty familiar with photoshop but not so much the other one. or is there another good program? I'm not some world renowned photographer but I'd like something to edit the 2 million pictures I will take on my new camera, esp in europe and peru.
anyway, just wondering.
thanks!

I'm a Mac user and I use Adobe Photoshop CS2. Not a master at it, in fact still learning. I only need it for basic things so it's good enough for me.
I suppose if you have the time and gumption to learn something new, give Aperture a try and let us know what you think !
At the end of the day, I usually stick with things that work and take up less of my time

Been a Mac user for quite some time now - I've got a preference for Adobe, but simply because that's where my training lies. Creative Suite has the Adobe Bridge - very useful iPhoto-like interface and I prefer it for managing my photos (though I started with iPhoto, and am not looking forward to going through the library all over again)
I'll wager that the Apple software will be easier to use, but not as powerful, though.
Mac and Adobe have done very well together, I don't see a reason to change.

I like photoshop best, but then we use all the adobe programs at uni and I've been using them for years and years before that so anything different seems completely strange and complicated to me!

I think I am going to go with Photoshop since I have used it before when I did my high school's web page (yeah yeah I know, don't make fun of me lol) and custom did all the graphics and whatever but that was like the fiiiiiirst ever edition of Photoshop or something, but I think there is a lot more to learn about it and I am going to get a tutorial or one of those "for dummies" books because I want to get all I can out of it.
I know the photoshop CS or whatever is like 650 bucks... hell no. but there's another one that's like 89.99 or something. But if Aperture does more for only 100 bucks more then... I dunno.

I concur with everyone on adobe & bridge is a billion times better than iphoto. For learning, I really like the adobe "classroom in a book" books. Quick & easy to learn from =)
good luck

I just heard on the radio this morning (and obviously thought of posting the info right away to this board) about a FREE web-based version of Photoshop called Adobe Express. Supposed to work with any browser/Operating System combo. You do need Flash 9 (which is free) to run it. I know its over the web but you get some free storage. Might be perfect for people not willing to shell out big bucks (or otherwise acquire it) but like the familiarity of PS. I'd love to hear some reviews...oh, and you can link images to Facebook very simply....
