Default Hello from Vancouver Island

Hey, all.

I stumbled in a few days ago in my search for info for a trip I'm taking and I've been reading ever since. What a wealth of useful information I'm bound to have questions I want to ask as things shape up and I'm introducing myself so that when I do, I'm not coming out of nowhere :P This seems like it could be a fun community to be a part of too

I'm considering making travel a part of my life more in the next few years. I have a pretty portable and flexible self-employment situation and I'm looking at ways that I might be able to live and work in other places for periods of time. I currently live on Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada. I miss the prairies but it's beautiful and temperate here.

I'm also interested in people's experiences doing semi-low-budget traveling with young children. Haven't seen much about that on the board but I haven't seen it all yet either.

Anyway, hiya, nice to meet you

Molly

Hello fellow Canadian (there are a lot of us here). Welcome to the boards!

Awesome, Vancouver Island is a really great place. I remember being there a couple of years back and remember how low the clouds were... especially on the beach.

Not that I have experience with it, but I would say low budget travel with kids is completely do-able, especially in relatively safe areas like Europe. Most hostels in Europe I went to featured some families, or kids of school trips. So yeah, definitely budget travelling is kid friendly... especially those low maintaininace kids.

thanks y'all

I don't have any kids but I am anticipating a little one in the near future. My upcoming trip is a bit of a reconnaissance mission for backpacking with a newborn/infant (>1) and scoping out places where I might like to set up shop for anywhere from a month to a year.

Tons of great info here, thanks

Molly

Everyone visiting Canada should check out Vancouver I lived there for a couple of years but I've actually spent 8 of my 10 years on the west coast on vancouver island which is very different, LOL. Everyone that visits Vancouver should visit Vancouver Island. The capital city where I live is pretty sleepy but if you like salmon, big trees and/or surfing, head up-island for a great time =)

couldn't find an edit button but in my last post age should read (<1) i.e. since I wouldn't expect to be working hardcore that first as a mama I'm figuring I could strap the babe on and go globetrotting.

off to read some more
