Hello out there! ...yes, i'm a newbie to this whole thing...but have been a faithful 'guest' for some time now. Anyway, I will be traveling to Costa Rica (for the third time) this June...staying with a host family for the month...and then looking at venturing off on my own after that - - In my previous visits I didn't do too much looking around for hostel type places 'cause I didn't think I'd be going back so soon.....anyway, any head's-up on where to go (or nOt to go!) would be much appreciated!!
I usually stay in Alajuela...but I'm debating going south via Limon and the carribbean feel...or north to Guanacaste and all the beautiful beaches I have yet to see.....either way, anything and everything you have to offer is eagerly awaited!
thanks!
Peace.

Hiya,
There are two hostels in san jose. The Toruma (sp?) hostel which is hostelling international and Costa Rica backpackers. I had a friend stay at toruma and she didn't like it at all. i stayed at the costa rica backpackers and it was sooooo great. There is a pool, internet, nice washrooms. And it was only eight dollars or so!!
My fav place was Montezuma on the Nicoya peninsula. It was sooooo nice. I stayed at a place called Hotel Lys. Not really a hostel but I got a private room for cheap. It's the last little hotel on the beach section and is run by a nice though somewhat perverted french man. There are a few hammocks out front that you can use.
I also stayed in cahuita, but my impression is not that good. Though to be fair I was there when a really bad tropical storm hit the coast, so i never got to see the sunny beautiful side of it!! I went thru Limon and I didn't like it at all. Not the prettiest of places. anyhoo if you have any q's just ask.
PURA VIDA!!!!!!!
