More Afghanistan pics!!
Well I've finally found a way around getting onto flickr, so without further ado, here are some more of my pictures.......
sunrise in afghanistan
the orange orchard the runs through our fob. kind of random.
far away view of the hymalayans
closer view of the hymalayans
I think these are yak
we broke down here and then it flooded so we spent the night. it was great. NOT.
afghani woman and her boy herding some goats. the only local woman I've seen since I've been in theater
one of my fave shots while we were on the road
a rural village... the rolling fields look sort of like stairs
this is a pretty high speed afghani ambulance.
heh
biggest lizard EVER
before the flood
Okay these next three are a progression of photos of an unfortunate local volleyball game at the place we were camped out. these locals may live in mud huts but I'll be damned if they don't all have a volleyball net in their back yard
so it started with this dude playing by himself. he woulve volley then run around to the other side and so on. it was very amusing.
then I guess his friends felt sorrt for him so the joined him
not much longer we've got practically an olympic event here
the ministry of public health where we did some humanitarian & medical stuff
well I guess that's it for now. hope you like!!

Awesome pictures! I sure wish I'd deployed there instead of Iraq, twice. What's your MOS?

yeah it's not so bad. when we first got here I was seriously working 20 hour days no joke, but now I seriously don't do anything, which has its costs and benefits. I'm s 96B (which is now a 35F), which is intel. so the humanitarian mission I went on really has nothing to do with my job since I work in the battaltion TOC all night but I got picked to go on the mission and it was nice to get outside the wire from time to time.

Cool, I was an 88N (transportation management) but I didn't do my job a whole lot. I spent my last deployment working with you intel guys. Good stuff. I also jumped on every opportunity to get outside the wire, which ended up being all the time. My family hated it, but its a mentality that can't be understood unless you're there.

Yaks are tasty but can give you major stomach issues.
Great photos. Definitely nice to get a different glimpse into that part of the world.

Yeah, pretty sure those are yaks. I never saw babies that small, but the other himalayan animals I saw didn't have hair that long. Or maybe there's something different in Afghanistan. Do they have those cross-breed yak/cows? The locals called them Joe's in Sikkim.
Yaks were kinda scary, they were super curious and aggressive, at one point we had to run from them.
