Default tell me what the trains are like/where to store luggage?

hi all; first time visiting and first time posting. if this has been posted elsewhere please direct me to that thread.
we are going to oktoberfest then on to italy in early october. i plan to make our vist train reservation online (munich to venice) but was wondering generally how the trains are set up. where do you store your luggage? can you lock it? we'd like to take a sleeper, maybe the 6-person couchette.
any advice would be appreciated!

Usually in the six person couchette you store your luggage over the door but at times also under the bottom bed/above the top bed.

If you have one of the couchette compartments, there is plenty of room for your backpacks or bags. You didnt mention how many people you are going to have, but i've found there is always enough room. either under the lowest bed, on the floor at the window-side, on racks above the bed or at either end of the compartment or at your feet. I'm 6'2" and there was still room for my daypack at the foot of my bed.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions.

I just spent a couple of nights on the sleepers in Germany, they are really comfy actually. You will need to book a reservation as well as your ticket. You can store your bags under the bunk.

yeah it depends on the train but there is always somewhere... even if you have to hunt around for it (I have had trips where we've all stuffed our bags on a tiny shelf and discovered as we were leaving that the seats lift up or something!) I just keep my bag on the end of my bed as i'm pretty small so it doesnt bother me and i like to be able to get stuff out without bothering anyone
