Casa Poesia: San Jose, Costa Rica
Hostel: Casa Poesia
Location: Barrio la California (downtown San Jose)
Prices: $10/night for dorm or $14/night pp for king-size bed
Staying at this hostel wasn't our first choice. We booked last minute and this was the only one with an opening. We haven't been dissapointed yet. 24 hours unlimited internet access is a big draw. As well as cheap airport pickup ($15 for one person and $1 extra for each additional person). It's currently under construction but the hostel is very nice otherwise. The common room has awesome bamboo chairs with large cushions. It's located across the street from Costa Rica Backpackers (which was our 1st choice) which allows people staying at Casa Poesia to enter for use of the pool and other amenities. It's not located in the greatest area, we have to walk for about 30 minutes to reach any bank or mercado.
San Jose is better left as a one or two night stopover if you need to catch a flight or arrive late in the day. It reminds me a lot of the impression that people have of NYC - with less attractions.

Good writeup... Barrio California? Where is that in relation to the Holiday Inn at the square in Barrio Ammon? N, S, E, or W of the Coca Cola?

It's about 25 blocks west and 7 blocks south of Coca-Cola. I'm not sure where the Holiday Inn is though. It's two blocks west of the Justice Court - if that helps any.

I think Barrio Ammon was maybe 15 blocks east of Coca Cola, sort of in the north part of town, no? I've got to go back and reorient myself!

Ah, it is east of Coca Cola...I was thinking that Coca Cola was west of the hotel...my fault! Thanks Omi for catching it.
