EURAIL pass - im confused - are the days consecutive - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

Hey everyone i know this might seem like a silly question but i cant figure it out.....Im loking at buying a eurail pass. im going for 5 months and im not going to be travleing all the time so im looking at a eurail pass that allows me to travel 10 days within 2 months (im gonna buy two of them. one right after the other). but i dont know what it means buy 10 days within 2 months. is it ten consecutive days. like as soon as you go on ur first train trip you have ten days left to use ur train travel or does it just mean out of two months u can choose ten seperate random days that you can use the pass.

im hoping its the second one....but im guessing it will be the first, just coz i dont want it to be ahaha. always the way it works right.

It is the latter, just 10 random days in 2 months. Depending on where you travel you may want to see if it is worth it. Germany, more worth it than say, Spain.

It's confusing because they USED to have a consecutive-day pass. But It no longer appears on their site. Perhaps they realised people didn't want to continuously hop in and out of trains with no time to see the sites.

i'm not sure if this still applies, but a friend of mine was in europe and wanted to buy a railpass while he was there, but was told because he wasn't an EU citizen, he could only buy it through his travel agent before he left. something along those lines, i think. i'm an EU citizen but have never tried to buy a railpass while in europe. always had one beforehand. anyway, it's something to look into. even if it turns out they changed the rules or my buddy misheard something or someone told him some bull****, you should check it out because you don't want to end up without a railpass.

yeah, you definitely have to buy BOTH of your eurail passes before you leave for the EU. The way that they work is that you have 2 months after you first use your pass to use those 10 days but you have to start using your pass sometime within the allotted time after you buy it (I think it was like 6 months, but it could have been more, can't remember). So just be sure to buy your passes close enough to the beginning of your trip. Also, what's awesome with the flexipasses (which is what you'll have) is that sometimes the conductors forget to stamp them so you et one free day of travel! I know a lot of people that happened to in spain.

Just a tip I read somewhere: If you catch a train that leaves after 7pm you are allowed to put the following days date on it so it is then valid until midnight the following day.

You can travel a long way in 29 hours

i had also heard about having to buy a pass before you leave, and thats what I did, but my friend lost his pass while on the trip and hadn't bought the replacement policy thing (find out about this and get it!) but we could easily buy him a new pass at the train station in zürich. so I guess you can buy a pass while you're over there. i have no idea where you're travelling but check out the deals with ferries... my friend and I travelled from stockholm to helsinki on a freakin CRUISE SHIP for free... we booked our tickets by phone and said that we had eurail passes, and they didnt even check the pass when we picked the tickets up! so we didnt even use a day!
