You can look at Travelpunk's desination guides on various countries for a little more information on each!
Here's the link for that: <a href="http://dg.travelnow.com/index.jsp?cid=56647">here.</a>
I'm planning a trip to Central and South America for this summer. If you have any questions let me know (and I'm sure others who've already traveled will chime in soon).

While Guatamala is a tempting place to go, it is not one of the safest. I went to Costa Rica for a homestay for a month and I was in San jose, I absolutely loved it! There is never a dull moment there

I travelled through both Mexico and Guatemala in the fall, and am now in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I LOVED both Mexico and Guatemala! And, Iīm loving Buenos Aires. Out of the countries Iīve travelled through so far, I felt the least safe in Guatemala, for whatever thatīs worth. Iīve heard awesome things about Panama, but havenīt been there myself. Where did you go in Mexico? What kind of a trip are you looking to have?

i went to playa and stayed outside of the tourist zone and absolutely loved being right in the middle of the local residents...it's very sad to see what the hurricane has done to many of their homes though =( ...thanks for the help on guatemala, I'm definitely thinking panama more now...of course I hadn't even considered buenos aires...once again, a place I know nothing about lol! I'm hoping to get to relax and see a bit of culture and almost be immersed in it yet still have a moderate amount of living comforts...I don't want to be in a party area since it's more for relaxation and reflection kind of stuff...thanks again!
