Default Galway for the weekend

My flatmates are I are heading to Galway for the weekend of Jan 26th (we are currently living in Dublin and haven't been out to the West Coast before. I was just wondering what we should be sure to check out during the day and where we should party at night?

Any recommendations or stories would be great!

I was in Galway for all of 15 minutes but they have a well recommended hostel called Sleep Zone and if you want the exact opposite of Dublin, they have a shuttle to Sleep Zone in Killary (I stayed at this one) which is right on a fjord. Beautiful area but in the middle of no where (bring your own food!)

The good thing about Galway is everything within walking distance, the claghda village is supposed to be worth a look I've never gone myself but it's where the claghda ring was created. Silver strand is a nice beach to visit but if the weathers bad don't go near the beaches.

Good pbs to visit are,

Sally longs
The Quays
The Kings head
Foxes pub (that's a backpackers pub now)
Roisin dubh

Other than that just wander around there are loads of pubs in Galway you'll never be that far from one.

Fat Freddys was always supposed to be a good place for food because they do a students menu and it's all good food.
