I'm in the process of finding work and a flat in Dublin, but am currently still staying in hostels. This weekend is PACKED full an I can't find a place to stay, so I'm heading to Cork with a few others from the hostel.
Any suggestions about what we should see/where we should go for a weekend in Cork?
Thanks

there are a few hostels to be found around the main bus terminal i stayed at the bru bar and hostel on maccurtain street (i think?). in terms of things to do, there are plenty of good bars and pubs along st. patrick's street and with the art school nearby, prices shouldn't be too bad.
oh and avoid going to kiss the blarney stone, it's a rip off and the gypsies piss on it at night.
(or so i've been told)

Cork is Micheal Collins territory. Michael Collins is a national hero he's the man who started the IRA (not the one set up in the north) at the turn of the century, brought the Irish freedom issue to a head and made the British enter into dialog with the Irish republican movement. He was responsible for creating the Irish free state and splitting the country in two.
He was assassinated by the IRA in Cork and you can probably visit where it happened.
