Jobs in UK. How difficult to get on UK passport? - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

I was born in New Zealand but my mother is British, which means I have a British passport which I just got in the mail last week

I know there are plenty of questions about jobs in England for people with foreign passports but how hard is it to find a job if you're classed as a local citizen? I'm 19 and prepared for any sort of work, maybe a short time in London but mostly up north around Leeds. Any info would be great like what sort of wage or work should I be looking at? This is only for about 3 months.

My friend is a kiwi and went to Leeds for work. Apparently, he just up and moved into a hostel in London and then looked for work and landed some job doing fencing in Leeds. You do have the advantage of a British passport because you can get a job anywhere then.

How easy was it to get the british passport? Im going away next year and am looking into applying. Did you just go to an embassy somewhere or apply through the high commision website?

Pretty simple, I did it all over the net through the British Commission Office. If you have any trouble, just e-mail them and they're very prompt in responding. You print the application out and you send that with your current passport, your Mothers or Fathers BRITISH passport and two other forms of I.D. I sent them a bank statement with my address and last years High school report. It costs about three times more then your local passport but obviously worth it. I got it in about 8 days.

Ugh I dont know if my dad has a current british passport, I think hes using an Aussie one. Guess I need him to get one again. Did you do it before or after you turned 18?

Your father doesn't need a current British passport, its his birth certificate you need. You can apply for it at any age, you don't have to be 18. I would also advise you the same thing I have been advised, have dual passports. I was always told a New Zealand passport is good to have aswel as a British since we're a very neutral country, don't know about Aussie anymore but why not.
