i just got a new laptop today from Fijitsu siemens. Its pretty low spec with 60 gig hard drive 512 meg of ram and DVD burner but compared to my old intel pentium 2 its absolutly amazing. does any one else have a similar laptop and can they recomend any cool softwhere programs.

Also do you guys take your laptops while traveling? (may seem a stupid question but now i have a good laptop i want to take it abroad)

i left my laptop at home after packing everything and seeing how much weight it all really was... it was something that as much as i knew i wanted to take it i know i'd be worried about losing it all the more. i left it at home and it didn't mess up my trip much but that fact that i had to pack extra memory cards for my camera and make sure i had all my music on my mp3 player.

so think about the weight and what would happen if you got it stolen.

I'd leave it, unless you need it for work or something. Internet cafes are usually cheap and usually plentiful. I could see some advantages regarding photos, etc.; but personally I'd be worried about harming it-- let alone theft-- and the weight of the damn thing on my back.

Better safe than sorry, especially regarding an expensive piece of electronic equipment. But congrats on the purchase.

I know nothing about my laptop and I just bought it (with hubby on the phone) so can't help with those questions.

I agree - unless you need it for work, don't bring it. It's heavy, it's fragile and it's quite the target theft wise. I took mine to Europe with me, but left it with family. It was too much to haul around and I was so paranoid.
