Hi. Just starting to pack for my trip and I really really want to use zip-lock bags. Where do I find them in the UK?

Should be in the aisle with all the aluminium foil and plastic wrap, garbage bags and so forth. Ziploc is a name brand, cheaper no-name or store brands usually call them zipper lock bags, or something of that nature. You should be able to find 1 gallon freezer bags which are pretty handy, but you will want some of the smaller size, too.

I mean I have looked! None at any supermarket- not tesco, asda, sainsburys or wilkos! Just wondered if anyone knew of anywhere else to look? I mean they have different types of sandwich bag things but not one that close securely enough or are big enough!

Hmmm. Well, they should be in there with the sandwich bags. Ziploc or Glad are pretty sturdy North American brand names, I have no idea what you'd find in the UK. In Lithuania, most of our plastic products like that were from Poland, and though they weren't the sturdiest, they were alright for small loads. You could always double bag stuff if you can't find really strong ones. The larger sized bags are generally labeled as "freezer" bags, and they tend to be more rugged than the small ones, and again, should be in the same section as the sandwich bags, plastic wrap, and so forth. When all else fails me at the supermarket, I ask a store employee, and they can usually track down the item - sometimes to my embarrassment when I've spent 5 minutes looking at the shelf above, but missed the thing I was looking for . At any rate, it's worth asking, because occasionally they'll have things in wacky places that you'd never anticipate - Power Bars in the canned goods aisle?...Naturally!
