I am flabbergasted and uber sad over this news. 45 minutes ago it hit the newsfeeds but from what I can tell it's no joke. Steve Irwin, aka the crocidile hunter, was killed by a stringray barb through the chest while diving off Australia's North Coast.

Whatever some people will say about the guy, he was one of my heroes and I loved watching his shows. Any man with as much passion and commitment as him, is a man to be admired in my book.

Farewell croc hunter.

Yeah it was a really strange moment when I first heard about this.

I was never really a fan but it really struck me too. He was probably one of the last people I had expected to hear this kind of news about.

It's sad it happened to someone with such a passion for life and two young kids.

was it really that unexpected to hear that a guy who spends his life putting himself in dangerous situations, finally got unlucky?

I would of thought he would have been 1 of the 1st people id hear this kinda news about.

he was quality though, rip.

I meant the death news in general not the sting ray details.

If someone told me Steve Irwin had died I would have waited for the punchline. It just sounds like a bad joke or something

thats a kinda random symbol to use as a sign of respect. shouldnt it be his saying 'crocks rule" or "crikey" or even a pic of a croc. a turtle?

This is very sad news indeed but I just want to say that I am glad that he died in the way that he did, and not something like a car accident or cancer. but he died doing something that he loved. He was always a little bit crazy in his stunts and they finallly caught up to him, but this is probably the way that he wanted to go. being crazy and living on the edge untill the very end. Rest In Peace Steve Irwin.

As much as everyone in Oz cringed about him, it's very sad of course and he has young kids as well.

WOW...it always blows me away when a celebrity dies fairly young. You never really expect it. Just goes to show that it can happen to anyone at any time, so enjoy life to the fullest. I agree with others that it is best that he died doing something that he loved.

BTW - in reading that article, it seemed to be a one in a million fluke that the barb actually penetrated his chest and went straight into his heart.

I will definately be looking at stingrays in a bit of a different light after this when I go diving. I know that many varieties are poisonous, but never really thought about something like this being a possibility. Well, shit happens - better than being hit by a bus.

Its terrible that he left a wife and a couple of young kids....

I was sooo sad to hear this, I thought my workmate was lying when he told me.

I was planning on hunting him down and stalking him when I go to Australia to tell him what a legend he is!

Sad to hear... But like many have said at least he died doing what he loved.

Prayers to the family, hope they make it through it.
