Yeah, British Airways is considering suing the BAA, as well.
Normally I don't advocate this sort of sue-happy, litigious BS, but when it's against the government or regulatory groups, I don't seem to mind

Hear Hear, Omi. The civil libertarian in me is eager to see what happens. God help me if I can't carry deoderant in my carry-on. Ive been known to spruce up a bit in the bathroom after exceptionally long flights...

I totally agree with you, they should care a little more about their passengers safety than their stupid profits.

Profits aside, think of it like this:
The liklihood of you being killed in a terrorist attack on an airplane is exponentially less than that of being hit by a car crossing your street.
Therefore, the increased security regs border on asinine. You can carry matches but not a lighter. You can't however, carry nail clippers. But small pocketknives get through all the time.
For that matter, in the States, as I've said in this thread and others, the TSA inspectors are if anything inconsistent.
I'm all for safe travel conditions, but the outright ban on common essentials on your carry-on luggage is downright recockulous. Most of us know better than to check our travel essentials (toiletries) in the event that our luggage gets lost. Having had luggage lost, I'd be screwed. If my contact solution was lost, I'm in big trouble. Being forced to dump it is a bit too far.

that actually is a good point about the whole rail thing, because i noticed the rail system in frankfurt runs right under the airport. if you really waned you could load a bunch of bags up with bombs during the holiday season get off a stop early, and boom. not that i would do this, i just noticed it and it struck me as odd, but i did get the police called on me last night, because i put my bag down and went to go piss, I came back and there was a gaurd standing next to it, i got scolded then allowed to walk off with my bag in tow

Well what do you expect if you leave luggage lying around?? only last month 2 bombs failed to go off after being planted on trains in Germany. and on saturday bonn train station had to be evacuated for 2 over hours after someone left their luggage lying around.
Really interesting article though, omi. It seems like what happened in london has been forgotten, security on british trains hasnt changed at all. Not sure about london as Ive not been since. i think security would be of much more use on trains and in railway stations.
actually, according to the news today it looks like german trains will in future have armed attendants onboard

I concur. Although by the looks of the article, they wouldn't cancel any flights that London wasn't planning on in the first place. I'll be flying Ryan a couple of times in about 3 weeks time. And I'm using Stansted to switch planes before hopping Ryan to Parma. Do you have any idea how huge Stansted is? I've already been told to plan on plenty of time between flights as you have to separately check in to each one...even if they're part of a transfer / ongoing.

well Luton and Stanstead are an absolute nightmare...when i went to Milan had to walk 15 minutes from the departure gate to the airplane (not good when you have a full bladder of beer!)

I am going to be flying into and out of Heathrow next week for work and likely traveling the Tube a bit so we shall see what's happenin'. Supposedly my single carry-on briefcase can't be more than 6 inches wide?? That aids security how?? Overreaction, IMHO. The more I read about this case, the more distant the supposed plot becomes. Apparently, many of the 'plotters' arrested in the UK didn't even have passports? It's great that they were caught but let's get on with a reasonable security policy - next thing you know we will all be riding planes naked and only after a thorough body cavity search.
