The Three Gorges is a great valley with a most splendid landscape on the Yangtze River and it is one of the ten most famous scenic spots and historical site in China.
The Xiling Gorge, which is the longest one of the Three Gorges, stretches from the mouth of Fragrance Brook in Zigui County of Hubei Province in the west to Nanjin Pass of Yichang City in Hubei Province in the east. It is famous for many gorges and shoals such as :Military Book and Sword Gorge, Ox liver and Horse Lung Gorge, Kongling Gorge, Dengying Gorge, Qingtan Shoal, Xietan Shoal, Konglingtan Shoal.
The Xiling Gorge had been well know for its numerous shoals and swift torrents. The Qingtan Shoals, Xietan Shoal, Konglingtan shoal used to be the most dangerous shoals in the navigation history of the Three Gorges. But since the completion of the Gezhouba Dam Water Conservancy Pivotal Project , these dangerous shoals of the old days have disappear once and for all, and the sceneries are still as beautiful as before.
