Is it possible to get mail sent to you while overseas (if you don't live there and don't have an address or anything) like can you just send it to the post office or the hostel or something?

If you're going to be staying put somewhere for a longish period of time (say three weeks) or will be traveling through the same town a couple of times, you can have it sent post restante to the main post office there. Look at a guide book to get more info about the process and address. Similarly, if you were going to be staying at the same hotel for a fair while, you could have mail addressed care of the hotel, although I've never actually tried this approach. The trouble is, I don't know how long they'll hold your mail at either a post office or a hotel, so double check that before you make such arrangements.
When I went on a three-month trip, I gave people the address of the friends with whom I would be staying roughly in the middle of the trip, and that worked out well for me. But if you're moving around frequently and don't know anyone en route, I would recommend getting people to email you, or appoint someone at home to deal with anything critical while you're away.
We move around a fair bit (12 addresses in nearly 12 years of marriage), and some of our mail still goes to my husband's parents. It's easier to use email as much as possible...which wasn't an option back when I did my solo trip.

Another option is leaving someone to scan you mail, and send it to you. but that would take someone of trust. So when I can pick up the mail keys? Party at Kasey's but don't tell her!
