Hey everyone, excellent website. Learning loads all the time. Basically i am leaving for Australia in 6 weeks as im doing a 1 year working visa there.
I have scouted on the internet for flights and prices and the cheapest one way ticket to Sydney from Heathrow is £475. I am unable to set my departure date from Australia because the websites say "the date is too far in the future". Surely you can have a return ticket after a year? Sorry if this sounds dumb but i am struggling a bit. Thanks.

Most airlines' online booking engines are incapable of booking a flight more than 364 days in advance... However, many will allow you to book a return trip by calling them. Make sure you quote the web price to try and get a decent deal, though your mileage will most certainly vary from operator to operator. In three separate calls to Delta reservations staff, I got three different prices... Within 20 minutes.

i hate delta. i tried to book with them because the online wasnt working and they wanted like 50 dollars more because the website wasn't working and they said it wasnt working. the price went up four different times at one moment it would be a fee then the price some how jumped to that. in the end i went with united and saved 80 dollars and got a direct flight.

I think all airlines have a 1 year validity, so you have a year in which to use your return ticket. So if you are wanting to stay longer than a year then youre best off with 2 singles..

If you will be coming back within a year then you have to book a "dummy" return flight when you book. This is usually about 6 months into the trip and can be changed free of charge. it sounds silly but you have to do this as they dont release details about flights that far in advance so when the time is coming up to your "dummy" departure just ring up the airline and get them to book your real return flight

hope this makes sense
