I was wondering if i can take my 64 liter pack as a carry on?
What are the limits?

Every airline has its own limitations. Many international carriers adamantly claim they enfore one carry-on item. Most international and domestic say one carry-on and one "personal item," such as a purse, camera bag, briefcase, etc. So, I recommend double-checking with the carrier you're flying on. Some even WEIGH the carry-ons. One time, I flew (with no problem) from Columbus to New York, and New York to London with one bag and my camera bag. Then, on my Emirates Airways flight to Dubai, they weighed my carry-on and made me check it. Guess what didn't show up when I did in Dubai?

Honestly, I don't how big a 64-liter pack is. The dimensions might be more useful. But most airports have little boxes by their ticket counter that demonstrate what supposedly is the max size allowed for a carryon. If your bag fits in the box, it's okay. If not, you have to check it. In practice, they routinely ignore that.

What is your routing and which carrier are you flying on?

Thanks for the info Mike. It is definately of interest. I figured if worst came to worse I would carry on my day pack and check the main pack, since everything of 'value' would be in my daypack.

Actually, you would have to watch what you bring with you in your pack and make sure you don't have anything that isn't allowed to be carried on. Especially things like swiss army knives and such.

65L pack, I would have to say you will have to check that on most airlines. What ever you bring on the plane HAS to fit in the overhead or under the seat, and I do not thik a 65L pack falls into that area. I have always checked my bag.

Why would you not wanna check your bag? Bad experience before???

I'm flying air canada to paris.

No, not so much a bad experience, but I just bought travel insurance, but the only thing it doesn't cover is baggage. So i was thinking I would feel safer if i took my bag with me... but i might just shell out the extra bux for some peace of mind i suppose. thats all.

Well, the airline has to insure your luggage, already. They will replace up to a certain dollar amount of contents/bag itself. I'll ask the Baggage Service agent here at work and find out what it is.

So, unless you're packing jewelry or other expensive items, I wouldn't worry about it. And it is NOT a good idea to check your camera or anything relatively expensive. Put anything like that in your carry on. If you aren't planning to have a separate bag as a carry on, just grab a retail plastic bag that you can plan on tossing after the flight.

If your traveling Air Canada, 64L is almost certainly too big for carry on.. I had a 40L on AC to London Heathrow last summer and they almost made me check that if it had weighed much more than it did. So I recommend hitting MEC for a Day Pack... I bought mine there for less than $20 and it's amazing... best purchase I've ever made... this is the one I bought... before my trip holds a LOT more than you'd think.

wow, thats a nice little pack.
i just ordered my pack from MEC, and its got a detatchable daypack, so i'll just take that as a walk on with all my more important/valuables , and check my big pack in.
