Thumbs up

Ok Ok so ive finally decided that im going to overseas and put off school for a year. It didnt take much to convince me (my foot was half out the door) but a little reassurance is nice to hear(thax to all that replied to my last post btw). Plus i finally told my dad and while he was a little wary at first now he wants to come to italy with me for a week in Jan. So im going over seas in september with SWAP. I have some family that i can stay with for a little bit but then i have to get an apartment (i found one in belfast for 43 pound a week) and im planning on working from september to november (taking day trips around NI as much as possible since ive seen most of it ne ways) coming home for christmas and coming back in jan and working until mid april. I am planning on saving about half of my paychecks for travelling and will already have about $3500 coming over. After intially backpacking around the Uk and the republic of ireland (ive set approximitely 1 month and 3 weeks for this) Im planning on going to france for two weeks, italy for two weeks, austria for a week, croatia for a week, Czech republic 3 days, Greece 5 days, and the netherlands, romania and spain for three days (im only plannin on visiting one or two cities in these countries) how much do you think i would need (im planning on buying most of my food, staying as cheap as i can, and im a cheap drunk so alcohol shouldnt be too much of an issue) for this (in pounds preferably) Any tips or advice you could give me would be great. Thanx!!

Ash

Good decision ! You'll only find here people to agree with it !

Each country has its own cost of living. If you're very short on money, you should go through travel books like Lonely Planet, and come up with a realistic budget per country. UK and Italy are just about the two most expensive countries for tourists, while in Romania, a tight budget means around $15-$18 dollars per day.

A comment on your itinerary : spending three days in Romania is not worth the long train ride. And you'll end up visiting Bucharest, and not appreciating the country. In Romania, one needs to spend some time in Transylvania and other areas of the country to fall in love.

Same comment for Czech, Netherlands and Spain. Too much trouble to get there for three little days. Try to set a flexible itinerary in the UK, France and Italy, in order to maybe extend your stay elsewhere.

My two cents.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah as i was looking it over i definitley wanna spend more time in the czech republic and romania, spain and the netherlands were not too too high on my list of places i wanna go. I mainly wanna hit up Amsterdam and Madrid. Transylvania however is high on my list of must sees. Im major into history. I bought the lonely planet europe on a shoe string book and its seems pretty good. So ive been taking thier recommended budget and crunching numbers. Hopefully it all works out im so so so so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!
